THREE DECADES OF SPECIALISED DEMENTIA CARE ACROSS LONDON
Find out more

For three decades, we have specialised in providing compassionate care for individuals with dementia, helping them maintain their independence in the safe and familiar surroundings of their own homes.

We understand the challenges and emotional toll dementia can bring, and we are dedicated to offering empathetic support to both individuals and their families throughout this journey.

Our Registered Dementia Nurses and carers work closely with families to create personalised care plans catering to each individual’s unique needs. These plans are tailored to factors such as the stage of dementia, cognitive abilities, and physical health.

We take the time to truly understand our clients, learning their personal preferences and triggers to offer more tailored care. This helps us support individuals through the progression of dementia, ensuring their cherished memories, interests, and connections to the people and places that matter most are honoured and preserved.

OUR APPROACH

Person-centred, flexible care

We believe in the power of knowledge and education to provide the best care. Our carers receive tailored training, equipping them with effective communication techniques to support clients through the more challenging aspects of dementia, helping them feel comfortable, secure, and understood.

As dementia progresses, the level of care required may change. We recognise this need for flexibility and adjust our care plans accordingly, ensuring our carers receive ongoing training, and that support continues to meet the evolving needs of our clients.

DEMENTIA CARE CASE STUDY

Supporting our client throughout their journey with Dementia

When a client with early onset dementia was referred to us by their family living abroad, we embarked on a meaningful journey together.

Initially hesitant about care, we patiently worked to find the perfect carer who could build trust and understanding. Starting with just a few hours a week, we gradually progressed to 24/7 care as the disease advanced.

Our approach was truly person-centred and holistic. Collaborating closely with the client, their family, and their geriatric consultant, we developed a deep understanding of their preferences and priorities from the very onset of their diagnosis. As the disease progressed, we always tried our best to act served as true advocates, ensuring their best interests were always at the forefront.

Our efforts enabled this remarkable individual to live life to the fullest and remain in the cherished home they had built. They were a true inspiration to us all. From accompanying them to concerts, galleries, and family weddings to assisting with daily activities like having a spray tan or visiting the hairdressers, we provided personalised care that preserved their sense of self.

The client’s family expressed profound gratitude, acknowledging that without our team at Draycott, their loved one could not have lived such a vibrant and active life for as long as they did. As healthcare providers, being part of such outcomes is a privilege and a source of immense fulfilment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

More Information

At-home care can be more reassuring for your loved one, especially in the early and middle stages of dementia. During these times, many people with dementia feel more comfortable and safe in their own homes, especially with support from family, friends, and home care professionals. In the later stages of dementia, care needs can become more complex. This is why tailored and specialist care from Draycott Nurses and Carers would be an excellent choice. By including your loved one in the care planning process, we will ensure to personalise and tailor care to their individual needs.

We appreciate the crucial role of care continuity in providing a dependable and constant support network for our clients. While we endeavour to uphold this continuity at all times, there are times when certain circumstances will not make this feasible.

Our dedicated team members, renowned for their exceptional caregiving, also require personal days and holiday breaks. Furthermore, in scenarios necessitating round-the-clock care, this may require a regular team of carers operating on alternating shifts with scheduled breaks, to maintain their wellness and ensure the delivery of uncompromised care.

We adopt proactive strategies to keep you abreast of any changes in your care team. In the event of a planned absence or relief requirement, we ensure you are notified well in advance. Your peace of mind is paramount to us, so we provide the name of the substitute carer to preserve the safety and transparency of your care.

Your carer can support with day-to-day tasks, such as organising medical appointments, including ordering prescriptions and medication management, booking vaccinations, and transport. They can support you to attend events and social activities, and maintain an active lifestyle. Carers often work with and under the direction of other healthcare professionals, such as community nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. This ensures a joined-up and collaborative approach to your care and wellbeing.

During waking nights, our carers remain vigilant throughout their night shift, providing uninterrupted monitoring, support and care to individuals who may have intricate needs or require frequent assistance overnight. Their duties may include administering medication, addressing personal care needs, responding to emergencies, or managing other needs that may surface during the night.

In contrast, during sleeping nights, carers sleep for a portion of their night shift, ensuring, however, that they are present in the client’s home throughout the night to lend assistance if required.

The decision between opting for waking nights or sleeping nights hinges on the specific requirements, condition, and preferences of the client, and often there is a need to flex between the two. Draycott’s fully managed service allows for this flexibility and all factors will be comprehensively discussed throughout your care, as well as during your initial nursing assessment, to determine the most fitting arrangement.
