Personal Independence Payment
If you have difficulty getting around or doing everyday tasks, you can make a claim for Personal Independence Payment (PIP). This benefit is replacing Disability Living Allowance for people aged 16 to 64. PIP is tax free, paid every four weeks, and not affected by your income or savings.
There are two parts to PIP:
• A mobility component, which is paid if you need help getting around.
• A daily living component which is paid if you need personal care.
This is paid by local Councils.
Depending on the amount of capital you have, excluding your house, you may be entitled to full or partial funding.
If you are eligible the Council will either pay for your care or give you Direct Payments which allow you to spend the money on nursing or care as you choose.
Independent Living Funds
Paid by Central Government.
This is to support people to continue to live at home.
To be eligible you must be between 16 and 66 years of age and your assets and capital must be less than a certain amount.
