Frequently Asked Questions
No two medical situations are the same, so naturally we're used to the phone ringing and questions being asked. Here are some generic questions and answers. If your query is not answered by anything here, just contact us for a precise answer.
Will I always see the same Draycott Nurse?
Yes, and no. As far as possible we stick to our one customer-one nurse (or carer) philosophy. However, our staff do take holidays, and occasionally need a day off, so once in a while you'll see another member of the team. However, we always let you know in advance when this is going to happen, and for security’s sake we make sure you know the name of the replacement. Where appropriate, we make sure that the replacement is briefed by your usual member of staff, and has access to your notes.
I'm worried about security.
We select our staff carefully, we carry out a Criminal Records Bureau check, and we take up all references. Often staff who join us are recommended by existing Draycott Nurses. Not only can you be sure of your own safety and that of your home, but you can rely on the fact that our staff will keep confidential anything they may learn whilst they are in your home.
How much does a Draycott Nurse cost?
It's not possible to quote a global figure, because the extent of care and the skills required vary from case to case. All we can do is reassure you that Draycott Nursing can be surprisingly affordable and that, if it applies in your case, health and accident insurers are often prepared to meet at-home nursing costs. If you’d like to use Draycott Nursing, our Nurse Liaison Officer will visit you, so that we can asses what’s required and give you a quotation for the services you need.
What sort of medical cases do you care for?
Almost any case where the physician-in-charge has decided that home medical care is suitable. On our about you page we give a short list of typical cases, but there are many more. If you need to know precisely how we can help, just contact us.
Can you help support independent living for the old and infirm?
Certainly. As well as (or indeed, instead of) nursing we can provide care staff to manage things like shopping, bathing, cooking, light domestic duties, etc. If you need to know precisely how we can help, just contact us.
How does your presence affect the relationship with doctors?
If our customer is under the care or supervision of a doctor – whether a GP, hospital doctor or other specialist – our staff work to the physician's medical instructions and can provide professional feedback as required. As a simple example, it might be that a doctor has decided that blood pressure should be checked daily. We do this and report results back as required.
Can you help with temporary problems?
Indeed. Many of our customers just have short-term needs, following an accident or operation. Whether a single visit is needed or longer-term care, you can count on Draycott Nursing.
What about looking after elderly mentally infirm cases?
If the problem is suitable for home care, as decided by the doctor supervising the case, then we can provide specialist nursing and care. As always in cases like these, you can rely on our absolute discretion.
Can you provide respite for family carers?
We can. It can be wearying to look after a member of the family with a medical problem and we are very happy to provide regular respite – say one or two days a week – or holiday relief for longer periods. We know how important it is for family carers to have some time for themselves and we’re happy to help.
How do you cope with a medical emergency?
Our staff are fully trained to manage in the event of a medical emergency, and can often manage the crisis by themselves, or by calling in outside specialists.
We hope that this has answered some of your questions, but please just contact us if you need any more information.
