A place to thrive.. Draycott Living
What happens when you are not able to look after yourself or someone close to you – it may not be only when you, or they, are elderly. Where do you go, will you be able to stay in the area you know, will you be able to retain contact with your GP, will you get the best care and how will you know that?
Angela Hamlin, founder of Draycott Nursing
Angela Hamlin is realising an ambition driven by the personal experience of caring for her mother and her professional concern for people seeking domiciliary and residential care in the area where they live with providers that they can trust. A former Deputy Matron of King Edwards Hospital, she founded Draycott Nursing 10 years ago in 1997. Today Draycott Nursing is regarded as the most forward-thinking, discreet and professional service provider in the nursing and care industry. Now, Angela is establishing a first in the field of care through Draycott Living. The Vision
Her vision is to create a destination - a centre of excellence and a caring environment - for people throughout their adult life in need of care, staffed and operated by the most qualified Nurses and Carers who are passionate about their roles and the needs of their patients. The people working for Draycott Nursing uphold the exacting ‘old school’ standards of nursing that Angela was trained to practice combined with today’s state of the art technology and clinical procedures. Draycott Living centres will be a place to thrive whether resident’s needs are on a short or longer term basis.Draycott Living
Care is holistic - medical, personal and social. Draycott Living is about all aspects of a resident’s wellbeing providing a bespoke regime of care for each individual. The centres will have Doctors on call 24/7 with staff accommodation, and will be fully serviced as residents would expect while staying at a 5 star hotel. The ethos is to create home from home, to continue routines as closely as possible, to provide social stimulation and access to personal services that a resident would expect to experience in their normal day to day life. Meals will be available at times to suit the individual, taken in one of two restaurants, the resident’s dining room or as Room Service. A Concierge will be on hand to arrange personal arrangements, outings and social events. Importantly, Draycott Living will enable residents to do this in comfort and style as well as safety. On arrival residents will be welcomed and personally introduced to the centre. The architects have been briefed to include both functional and social facilities. The public spaces and accommodation suites will be interior designed. Facilities will include the expected provisions for medical procedures and occupational therapy, physiotherapy, a Day Centre and hydrotherapy pool. In addition there will be a swimming pool, music and art therapy studio, a drawing room and well stocked library, faith room and a flexible space for up to 250 people to be used for a seasonal programme of films, theatrical productions and art exhibitions. This space could also double as a commercial conference venue.
The long term plan is to integrate Draycott Living centres into leading edge residential developments with complimentary retail / businesses in urban centres. Angela’s vision is to attract GP’s, shops, gyms, Day Spas with beauty salons and hairdressing. Partnerships with veterinary practices, kennels, pet parlours and organisations like the Cinnamon Trust are envisaged to provide companionship and interest for residents as well as to enable long term patients to maintain their commitment to their pets and capitalise on the associated therapeutic benefits.
Standards and Training
A highly qualified management team will oversee a complex that will ensure a high patient to staff ratio. Each individual carer, as for Draycott Nursing today, will be selected with the most stringent criteria covering professional and personal qualities. All Draycott Nursing carers currently undergo training and constant supervision to ensure Angela’s standards are met and are continually improved; the Commission for Social Care Inspection commends the training as exceeding the national average. Angela’s aim is to create the first accredited Training Academy for Carers with live in accommodation to attract international students and supply a worldwide requirement for quality Carers. The Charitable Trust
Angela and her carefully selected Advisory Board will create a charitable trust that will enable Friends of Draycott Living to raise money for equipment and also create funds to provide subsidised places when personal circumstances preclude them. The Trust will also assist individuals to become Carers, identifying individuals with all the qualities required but who do not have the funds available to train. Draycott Living will be giving on many levels and providing tangible assistance to those that need or want to contribute to a caring environment.Angela’s belief is that being in need of care should not be demeaning or a cause of further uncertainty. Draycott Living will be a place to thrive.
